Before the formation of Toto the members of the group did sessions for Steely Dan, [3] Seals and Crofts,[4] Boz Scaggs and Sonny and Cher. The guitarist Steve Lukather is the band's vocalist.
About Toto
Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.

The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was an unfulfilling success in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two songs that were hits with the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour make Toto a household name across the world.
After a break of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. The album is an departure from the ballads that were featured on previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. This album was their first to be certified platinum in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and are financially in trouble. They decide to change their name and record a new album with an entirely new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as lead singer. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band much-needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and goes on a huge tour around the world. After a few weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and goes on to record their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa on the recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
Musicians
Toto is an American rock group that achieved their biggest success in the eighties. The band was founded by experienced session musicians, the band has sold over 40 million albums around the world.
The first album by Toto was the self-titled Toto album, which came out in 1978. It was a huge success that brought the band to international fame. Since then, the band has released 14 albums which have all been huge hits.
In 1984, Toto wrote their first, and to this date only, movie score for the film Dune. It was a massive undertaking that required the entire group to be involved. Kingdom of Desire was another success album. After a world tour, drummer Bobby Kimball left the band and was replaced by drummer Fergie Frederiksen of Le Roux. The band continued to push forward with their fifth album, Isolation. The album included a number songs that were hits, like "Stranger in Town".
After Isolation Toto was put on a hiatus. This gave the members of the band the opportunity to pursue their own projects. In 1996, the group came back together to tour and record an album. It was the first time in over a decade that all the original band members were on stage.
The following year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the final time that all original Toto members Toto were performing together. Following this, the band broke up again. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to benefit the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in more than 31 year that all Toto's original members were on stage together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
Tours
Toto has remained one of the most popular rock groups for more than three decades, scoring huge hits like "Rosanna," "Hold The Line," and their 8X-platinum hit, "Africa." The band's anthemic arena-rock is influenced by a variety of styles that include progressive rock, world beats, jazz, and soul.
The band experienced several setbacks throughout their final times, despite their fame. In 2002, keyboardist David Paich and drummer Greg Phillinganes took a medical leave of absence. Shem von Schröeck took over, but the band wasn't the same without Paich or Phillinganes. In 2008, a string lineup changes as well as a series of disappointing albums led Toto to call it quits for a few years. The group returned to touring in 2012 following the release of their album 40 Trips Around the Sun.
The album marked a return to the band's best form, and the tour that came with it featured sold-out concerts in North America and Europe. The reunion of Toto gathered momentum after the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
Toto's music is just as relevant now as it was in the 1970s and 1980s, gaining new fans with each passing generation. Their success has made them a constant part of pop culture and their live shows are always full of energy and excitement.
